About Us
Who we are

Belgium Biathlon stands for passion, team spirit, and international ambition. We are the association of Belgian biathletes, coaches, and supporters, working together to raise the profile of the sport in our country and to compete at the highest level.
Our mission is to support athletes, develop young talent, and share compelling stories from the world of biathlon. It’s not just about results – it’s about the people behind the numbers: their passion, daily routines, challenges, and their greatest moments on the track and at the shooting range.
This is Biathlon

Biathlon is the fascinating combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.
Athletes must perform at their peak on the course while maintaining precise shooting accuracy – a unique blend of endurance, focus, and mental strength.
Competitions come in various formats: Sprint, Pursuit, Mass Start, and Individual races, complemented by Relay and Mixed Relay events. Each discipline brings its own challenges – from fast laps on the course to precision shooting under intense pressure.
Competition levels at a glance:
- World Cup: highest international level, top athletes
- IBU Cup: second division, junior and development level
- Junior Cup / Junior World Championships: Young athletes, prospects for the future
THE BELGIAN HISTORY

BEGINNINGS IN BELGIUM
Biathlon in Belgium developed slowly during the 1990s and 2000s, long without its own training facilities. In the early 2000s, Belgians such as Thorsten Langer, Pascal Langer, and Vincent Naveau began competing in international biathlon events. Later, Thierry Langer emerged internationally around 2006.
GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT
From the 2000s onwards, targeted training camps and youth programs were established. By 2005, the first Belgian athletes were competing in the IBU Cup, marking an important step in talent development.
FIRST SUCCESSES
In 2008, Thierry Langer scored the first points for Belgium in an international IBU Cup race – a significant milestone for Belgian biathlon.
THE MODERN ERA
Since 2015, Belgian athletes have been regularly competing in the Biathlon World Cup. A highlight came in 2017, when Thierry Langer earned the very first World Cup point for Belgium, underlining the country’s growing international competitiveness. From then on, other athletes such as Florent Claude, Lotte Lie, and Tom Lahaye-Goffart also began shaping Belgian biathlon on the international stage – bringing Olympic experience, World Cup results, and the promise of a new generation.
Our Training

Training in biathlon is all about balance between endurance and precision. Our athletes spend countless hours on skis, building stamina, and combine it with focused shooting practice to stay calm under pressure.
A typical training season includes high-altitude camps, roller-ski sessions in summer, and intensive shooting drills. Strength and conditioning are just as important as mental preparation.
Behind every race result is a whole team: coaches, technicians, and support staff who ensure that equipment, skis, and rifles are always in top shape.
For us, training is more than just preparation, it’s a way to build discipline, team spirit, and resilience, the foundations that carry us onto the international stage.
